  • First rolls out ‘tap on, tap off’ across West Yorkshire‘London-style’ tap on, tap off technology is being fitted to all buses along with a revised fares system, allowing passengers more flexibility to travel in West Yorkshire
  • CPT and coach operators collaborate on national marketing campaignFollowing work with its members, the Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) has announced that a national marketing campaign to promote coach travel which due to launch with a television advertisement in January. The campaign, ‘Get Back On Board,’ aims to promote travelling by coach around the UK and highlight the benefits of coach travel more widely without focusing on a particular operator or region, such as access to tourist attractions and destinations and trips to town and city centres.
  • Phase two of NTA BusConnects goes liveIreland’s National Transport Authority, in conjunction with Dublin Bus and Go-Ahead Ireland, has launched the second phase of its new BusConnects network for Dublin. The ‘C-Spine’ commenced on 28 November and connects the communities of Maynooth, Celbridge, Leixlip, Lucan, Adamstown, Liffey Valley and Palmerstown to the city centre as well as Ringsend and Sandymount.
  • RATP Dev UK and Tower Transit finalise new UK joint ventureRATP Dev London and Tower Transit have announced that they have completed their UK tie-up on schedule and will operate under the new name of RATP Dev Transit London. Together the new company will operate 1,250 buses, serving 112 bus routes from 10 garages and will be among the leading electric bus operators with 27% of its fleet, some 300 buses, fully electric and an expected approximate 14% share of overall London public bus transport markets by the end of 2022. RATP Dev is the majority shareholder of the joint venture company.
  • National Express and Stagecoach groups merger announcedIn a major shake-up of the geography of the coach and bus industry, Stagecoach and National Express look set to merge their operations in the UK
  • Further retrofit funding for Scottish operators agreedThe Scottish Government has awarded a further £6.2 million in grants to 20 Scottish coach and bus operators to help with the financial costs associated with engine and exhaust retrofitting.

  • Pelican welcomes Shadow Home Secretary to discuss ZEYvette Cooper, MP for Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford and Shadow Home Secretary, has visited Pelican Bus and Coach to discuss how the public sector can play a role in driving forward the adoption of battery-electric buses.
  • Passenger apps and websites add real-time informationApp and website provider Passenger has unveiled a series of new feature that provide real-time information to users by leveraging up-to-date information from multiple sources. The supplier says it will help bus companies to mitigate the operational challenges brought about by staff shortages.
  • Eight more battery-electric buses set for TrawsCymruBattery-electric buses are set to be introduced on TrawsCymru route T1 between Aberystwyth and Carmarthen in 2022. They will represent a second tranche of such vehicles for the long-distance and interurban network in Wales.
  • Bradford CAZ suffers last-minute delay to ‘spring 2022’Implementation of the Bradford Clean Air Zone (CAZ) has been pushed back. Previously planned to start on 5 January 2022, it will now not begin until spring of that year, City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council (CBMDC) says. The local authority (LA) confirmed the delay on 22 December after the news was first broken by trade body RHA two days earlier.
