PM urged to act fast over London runway [Subscription]

David Cameron was facing fresh pressure to approve a new runway in the southeast today as a report found that failure to expand Britain’s airports would act as “drag” on the economy.

Gatwick report says landfill clear-up would add £500m to Heathrow runway cost

The report from environmental consultancy RSK Group was submitted to the Airports Commission which is due to announce this month which of the two airports should expand.

  • Stagecoach on track for higher revenues despite bus slowdownThe soaring demand for train travel over the past year contrasted with lacklustre growth in buses. Pre-tax profits are set to total £182.5m, up less than £2m on the year before. Stagecoach’s new eight-year contract to run the East Coast railway with Virgin is expected to generate “significant operating profits” in the next financial year, even with fare caps quietly agreed on certain routes last week to ward off a full competition probe.
