Thousands of British drivers face having to return their cars to dealers after Toyota announced one of the countrys biggest ever safety recalls. The company last week admitted a fault that results in the accelerator pedals on eight of its most popular models sticking while the car is moving. The fault has been blamed — in extreme circumstances — for sudden, uncontrolled acceleration.

TOKYO (Reuters) - Toyota Motor Corp President Akio Toyoda apologized for the recall of millions of vehicles around the world, Japanese broadcaster NHK reported, as the deepening recall crisis threatened to further damage its sales and delay an earnings recovery.
