  • Success for people power as Peak District rail link to Nottingham reinstatedA cancelled railway link taking visitors to and from a Peak District beauty spot has been reinstated after ten thousand people signed a petition demanding its return. The route between Matlock and Nottingham was one of 43 services to be axed last year by East Midlands Railway (EMR), with hourly services running between Matlock and Derby instead.

  • Northern Rail offering free tickets to 1,000 passengersThe operator, which runs many services across the region- including trains from Liverpool to Manchester, is planning to reward 1,000 people by covering the cost of their commute. Anyone who buys a daily, weekly or annual season ticket during September or October will be entered into a draw, from which 500 people a month will win back the cost of their ticket - up to the value of £100.
