Transport secretary Mark Harper will “take some time to listen to alternative views” about how to accomplish the intention behind the government’s proposed reform of the UK’s railways under the new public body Great British Railways (GBR).

Piecemeal interventions will not lead to the significant modal shift to bus that is required if the UK is to meet its net zero obligations, a report from WPI Economics and commissioned by the Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) has concluded. Instead, a wide-ranging, holistic and properly funded policy package is needed urgently.

  • National Express trials mirrorless coachesNational Express is trialling a new Caetano Levante IIIA which is the first in the company’s white fleet to use a camera mirror system in place of traditional mirrors.
