- January 2022 - Crossrail recalls perils of cutting investment when demand appears to be falling2021 started in lockdown, and ended with the dramatic spread of the omicron variant. According to DfTs statistics, passenger journeys had slowly climbed back up to the dizzy height of 72% of pre-pandemic levels in late November, but then we were told to work from home again, and volumes dropped to little more than 50%, with commuting collapsing once more.
- February 2022 - Scotrail shines light on post-Covid numbersThe Strategic Objectives listed in the recent consultation document issued by the Great British Railways (GBR) Transition Team as a step in the development of the “Whole Industry Strategic Plan” are admirable and sensible:
- March 2022 - Simpler long distance rail fares key to increasing patronageDespite withdrawal of the governments “working from home” guidance in late January, there has as yet been no dramatic surge in rail use. DfTs numbers show usage has crept up from around 60% to about 70% of pre-pandemic levels since then.
