It has been announced today that the mayors of Greater Manchester and the West Midlands have commissioned plans for an 80km Midlands-Northwest Rail Link (MNWRL) that would replace the scrapped northern leg of HS2.   • Mayors publish plan for new railway linking Midlands and North A plan for a new railway to replace the axed sections of HS2 to Crewe and Manchester is being published today by the mayors of the West Midlands and Greater Manchester.
