Abellio wins West Midlands franchise
A joint venture led by Abellio has won the West Midlands franchise, ending a decade of control by Govia. The routes between London, the West Midlands and Liverpool are set to receive an investment of almost £1 billion, said the Department for Transport. The fleet will be boosted by 400 new vehicles, which are to be in service by 2021, while the new contract includes compensation for delays of more than 15 minutes.
HS2 should "not be at the expense of rail electrification," says Vince Cable
The new leader of the Liberal Democrats has said that HS2 should not come "at the expense of good regional investment," suggesting that rail electrification for Wales should be a bigger priority.
