First Group’s most prized asset could be a “poison pill” in any takeover of the transport company. Ahead of this week’s “put-up or shut-up” deadline for Apollo Global Management, the US fund that made a takeover approach for First Group last month, City analysis of the train and bus operator’s assets raised questions over its Great Western Railway franchise as well as its Trans Pennine and South Western railway divisions.
