  • Landslip probably caused Shap derailment The derailment of part of an Avanti West Coast train near Shap in Cumbria, in which four people were slightly hurt, is suspected to have been caused by a landslip. The derailment of the leading power car of a Pendolino travelling from Glasgow to London early yesterday also blocked the down line, and all services will remain suspended between Preston and Carlisle today, Network Rail said.

  • A9 Dualling: Tay Crossing to BallinluigPreparatory works have commenced on the fourth section of A9 Dualling between Tay Crossing and Ballinluig this Autumn. The works, which are anticipated to continue through to early 2026, will involve establishment of the temporary site compound and office space area between Guay and Kindallachan, creation of access points along the section to facilitate works traffic, tree felling operations and works to facilitate utility diversions for the project.
